The Federal 357B averaged 1428 fps out of my 4" S&W 681, its not even losing that much out of a snubbie, about 135 fps and 100 ft-lbs of energy. In my own testing the Speer Gold Dot 124 grain (+P) 9x19mm averaged about 1150 fps out of several 3.5-4" barrels while the infamous Federal 357B 125 grain SJHP averaged 1293 fps out of a 2 1/4" Ruger SP101. 357 Magnum cartridge is about 1.5" long, their 2" barrel actually only had about 1/2" of rifling, while a 2" revolver has 2" of rifling.
